Privacy Policy

LiveRoad ("we", "us") is a free service that shows live UK roadworks, closures and cameras, and sends an optional weekly email digest. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the rights you have under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who we are

LiveRoad is operated under the trading name 5 Rivers Labs, the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us about anything in this policy at [email protected].

What we collect

• Your email address — when you subscribe to the weekly digest or create an account.
• A postcode or place you give us — which we convert to approximate map coordinates so the digest can tell you about roadworks near you. We do not track your live location.
• Account details — if you create an account, your email and a securely hashed password (we never store passwords in plain text).
• Saved locations and road watches — places or roads you ask us to keep an eye on.
• Messages you send us — e.g. via the contact form.
• Technical & usage data — anonymous, aggregated analytics (via our own self-hosted, cookieless Umami instance), server logs, and error diagnostics (via Sentry) to keep the service working. Your IP address is used only momentarily for security and rate-limiting and is not stored in our database.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

• To send the weekly email digest — your consent, given when you tick the box and subscribe. You can withdraw it any time (see below).
• To run your account and core features — performance of our service to you, and our legitimate interest in providing it.
• To keep the service secure (rate-limiting, abuse prevention) — our legitimate interests.
• To understand usage and fix errors — our legitimate interests, using privacy-preserving, aggregated data wherever possible.

Cookies

We use a single strictly-necessary cookie to keep you signed in if you have an account — this needs no consent. Our analytics (Umami) is cookieless and does not track you across sites. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

Who we share it with

We never sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers ("processors") who help us run LiveRoad, under contract and only as needed:

• Resend — sends our emails.
• Cloudflare — DNS, content delivery and security.
• Sentry — error monitoring and diagnostics.
• Our hosting infrastructure — stores the application data.

International transfers

Some of our providers (for example Sentry) may process data outside the UK/EEA. Where they do, the transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep digest-subscriber data until you unsubscribe; account data until you close your account; and contact messages for no longer than necessary to deal with your enquiry. After that we delete or anonymise it.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our use of your data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. If you have an account, you can also delete it and all associated data yourself at any time from your profile. Every marketing email has a one-click unsubscribe link.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please contact us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Children

LiveRoad is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll change the "last updated" date above, and for significant changes we'll let subscribers know by email.
